Pedal for Peace 2013 took off smoothly early today as they will be cycling all the way down to Labuan, with the hope of spreading the message of peacefulness along their way.

This scenic expedition starts in Kota Kinabalu where all of them will journey down the west coast to Menumbok and board a ferry to Labuan to meet up with their 50 cycling counterparts. The entire group will then cycle around Labuan Island the following day.

The core element of this event is as a reminder to us of the importance of peace and the sacrifices made by thousands of people to preserve it here. To honour them, a token wreath laying ceremony will be held at the Petagas War Memorial (Kota Kinabalu), Starcevich Memorial (Beaufort) and World War II Memorial (F.T. Labuan) respectively.

MIDJC 2013 Champion - DJ Fenx from Kota Kinabalu

The much anticipated Hennessy V.S.O.P KYRIOS, 3rd addition to Hennessy V.S.O.P’s Privilege Collection finally arrived in Kota Kinabalu! Fans and party goers alike shredded the night amidst dance music spinned by music acts from Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok (Performing DJs Mr. Nasty&GuruGuru and Bangkok’s DJ Aye) and bottled down the signature Hennessy V.S.O.P long drinks. Overall a great night with even greater company!

KYRIOS, which means “Guardian” in Greek, is the key to the codes of Hennessy V.S.O.P – elements which make Hennessy the world’s most loved V.S.O.P cognac today. KYRIOS comes after its predecessors Helios and Nyx of the Privilege Collection, this time representing a physical manifestation of the Codes: the Grapes, the emblematic “Bras Armé”, the year 1817, the Copper Colour, and the New Silhouette.

So if you weren't at the party, you can bet that the night was customized to fit the dark and classy celestial theme - symbolic interpretations of the five Codes of Hennessy V.S.O.P were depicted through body painted Hennessy V.S.O.P models, which became an instant photo opportunity amongst guests.

Another good news is.. Hennessy V.S.O.P KYRIOS is now available in entertainment outlets nationwide! What excuse do you have now not to party? Obviously none!

With five Fast & Furious movies in the bag, Vin Diesel and Paul Walker returns in another sequel for the franchise. Agent Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) enlists Dominic Toretto (Diesel) and his team to bring down former Special Ops soldier Owen Shaw (Luke Evans), leader of a unit specializing in vehicular warfare. The twist is this, Michelle Rodriguez is back from the dead and is playing as Letty once again. You must get this a lot, but when did you first start singing and what kind of music do you listen to these days? What music genre can’t you stand to listen to?
I started singing when I was 7 years old, “karaoke-ing” with my family. I only started to sing professionally when I was about 17 years old. I’m a big fan of Katy Perry and Michael Buble, and I’m really into K-Pop girl group 2ne1 - both for the music, fashionable image. I don’t really dislike any kind of music however, I guess my least favorite music genre would be Death Metal - I prefer a more positive style of musical expression.

If you weren’t singing or doing anything music related, what do you do (hobbies)? What are some of your hidden talents?
Gym exercise and swimming, but I also enjoy cooking and dancing. At the moment I’m also exploring photography and film editing. As for my hidden talents… Well, believe or not, during school I was quite the athlet – I competed in “lontar peluru” (shot put) and sepak takraw.
What are some of your favorite moments on stage?
In no particular order; a surprise duet performance with my idols, 3Diva and many other fan related moments, particularly when one handsome young man dropped to his knees, declared his love for me and handed me a heart shaped balloon ring in front of a massive audience in KL… So sweet!

How do you balance your career with other obligations?
I feel that if anyone wants to be successful you have to be dedicated and be willing to sacrifice certain things to achieve your goals. So, for now it’s all about hard work and staying healthy, getting enough sleep and eating well. I still find the time to meet friends and socialize too, maybe just a few less movie nights and parties though.

What’s new with your singing career - are you working on a new album?  Who are some of the producers and artists you worked with?
I’m glad you asked Ana! I am now based in KL and have recently signed with The Talent Unit at Media Prima as my manager. I have a new single out called “Semalam” composed by Audi Mok and Omar K – it’s an upbeat pop track sung in Bahasa Melayu and it was a thrill to work with Audi Mok producing. The song is being handled by Warner Music for promotion, distribution and digital downloads.

Any future plans for collaborations with local/international artists?
I am working on a new duet song with composer Omar K, and I have Faizal Tahir in mind too – I’ll update everyone with the latest news! I’m hoping to collaborate with some Indonesian artistes through my connection with Warner Music and I wish for an English duet debut with someone very special from the US in the not too distant future. One step at a time!

Will we see you coming out of your comfort zone (in terms of music genre / style) in your future musical endeavors?
I look forward to doing some more rock music with a kick*ss live band in the future.

What are some of your pet peeves?
I cannot stand people sitting at a restaurant with their mobile phone out and not communicating or conversing with each other at all.

What are 5 things you can’t live without?
1) Papaya lip balm, 2) family and friends, 3) music, 4) chili padi and lime, and 5) contact lenses and eye drops.

The Met Gala 2013 was really a high profile event and with Beyonce as an honorary chair of the event, Gossip Girl star, Blake Lively couldn't resist in showing her 'good side'. Seemingly covered by feathers on the lower part of her dress, Ryan Reynolds's wife looks fabulous.

The Met Gala 2013 held recently in New York seems to be the perfect way for some celebrities to come out and show something new about themselves to the public, and guess what, Anne Hathaway did just that. Spotting a longer hairdo (she was almost bald in the movie Les Miserables), Hathaway went BLONDE!

The event had a theme and it was “PUNK: Chaos to Couture”, rightly so, Anne Hathaway went with what David Bowie would have done with his hair in the 80s. Oh might we mention that her dress was also the highlight of her night.

With global coffeehouse chains taking over the local landscape, it’s easy to miss some of the impressive independent Sabahan cafés around town, especially so that these days we often opt for fast food takeouts to hearty meals. A brand new outlet is opening soon at Metro Township and a beverage factory operating soon in China,  Kopi Ping Café is surely not about to let itself fade into the background!

With over 20 dishes on their menu, ranging from light breakfast toasts to filling lunch and dinner servings as well as its own beverage brand, EZ Fizzy, Kopi Ping Café is well on its way to world domination - worth trying out if you find yourself in the area. But enough with the obligatory background check, let’s check out the top 5 dishes available at Kopi Ping Café..!

Seafood Tom Yam: Although the choice of menu at Kopi Ping Cafe is vast, you must not miss the Seafood Tom Yam! Popular among lunchers and night diners, the evident lemon grass and coconut milk flavor brought out the best out of its main ingredient – fresh prawns – enhanced the mildly sweet and sour taste of the soup and the chili flavor more pronounced. There is a definite piquancy to this fragrant Thai inspired dish, but it doesn’t overwhelm – perfect for those who don’t usually take spicy soups or broth.

Buttermilk Chicken Chop Rice: Make way for this batter-fried wonder! Lightly soaked with Kopi Ping Café’s homemade buttermilk gravy on the outside but not without the crispy bits (all thanks to Kopi Ping Café’s secret seasoned flour!) and pleasantly tender within. It might come as a surprise to first time diners but this plate of crusted dish is flavorsome inside out – if you’re big on southern cuisine, this might just be your next southwest/southern-flavored comfort food.

Black Bean Hor Fun Beef: Fermented black beans is famous for lending its special taste and flavor to practically everything they coat, especially so to beef. To a lot of people, it’s a bit of an acquired taste but Kopi Ping Café is doing everything right – beginning from the preparation of the beef down to the last bit; serving the dish to their diners. The chili paste mixed into the fermented black beans broth added an extra combo of rich taste and texture and balanced the saltiness pretty well. The hor fun is not without its special taste either – soaked in the fermented black bean broth, it also absorbed the taste from the beef as well as ginger, garlic, chilli and spring onions used to whip up this dish.

Fish Sauce Meehoon Seafood: Satisfy your sudden afternoon craving for some sort of Asian Fusion dish at Kopi Ping Café; well seasoned with fish sauce, salt, and pepper, this stringy dish is aromatic and slightly peppery in taste – which makes it a great for a quick lunch with your workmates. According to Hadi, all of the recipes at Kopi Ping Café was put together by Bill and Aaron Chang – using only the best (secret) ingredients, it comes as no surprise that the Fish Sauce Meehoon Seafood is quite a visual feast with toppings of prawn, fish chunks, pepper and sweet veggies; delicious and fragrant, two words to describe it!

Tau Fu Fa: Douhua, or Tau Fu Fa in Cantonese, is a Chinese dessert made with soft tofu – sometimes it also referred to as tofu pudding or soybean pudding. Served with three different syrups on the side (sugar syrup, palm sugar and evaporated milk), diners are free to mix their favorite Tau Fu Fa concoction, although it actually tastes good on its own too. Homemade and void of preservatives, this bowl of goodness is less sweet (without additional syrup) but richer in taste. Sink your teeth into this healthy dessert and let the wholesome goodness fill you up!

Conclude your mealtime with specially brewed coffee by Kopi Ping Café (of the same name) or freshen up with its home brand, EZ Fizzy (choice of EZ Soda Lime or EZ One Isotonic Drink). Whatever tickles your fancy, Kopi Ping Café pretty much has it all – check out more photos and have a peek at their menu on Facebook (fb.com/ kopipingcafe) and Instagram (@kopipingcafe).

Kopi Ping Café is open everyday from 9AM to 12AM at Damai and its newly opened branch at Warisan Square. Call 088-231877 (Damai) or 088-447956(Warisan) for enquiries and reservations.
